How do I upload files to my cutting software?

Cricut Design Space
1. Once you have extracted your files, save the SVG file to a convenient location.
2. Open Cricut Design Space and select the blue “Create New Project” button, or click File, New.
3. Click the Upload Images button on the left vertical panel.
4. Click the blue Upload Image button on the next screen.
5. Click the blue Browse button and select the SVG file you have saved.
Important Note: You will see that there are several types of files that you can upload, including PNG files. It is important NOT to upload a JPEG file as these are not vector files and as such do not contain cut lines. The same goes for DXF files. While these are cut files, they are not as high quality as the SVG files included in your purchase. In Design Space, you should ALWAYS use SVG files.
6. Click the green Save button at the bottom right of the screen.
7. Your file is now saved in your library. If you want to use it right away, just select the thumbnail and click the Insert Pictures button at the bottom right.

How to open SVG files in Silhouette Studio?
To import an SVG file into your Silhouette Studio, you will first need to unzip the file:

Upload to Silhouette Studio:
After the files are unzipped, you are ready to start using them in Silhouette. Remember, Silhouette Basic Edition users will want to use the DXF files, and Silhouette Designer Edition users can use the SVG or DXF files. There are three methods you can use to open your files. All of these methods require you to open your Silhouette Studio software FIRST. Your files will not open correctly unless you open them from INSIDE Silhouette.
Method 1:
this is the File> Open method. Open Silhouette and, in the upper left corner, click on the ‘File’ icon. Then scroll down and click ‘Open’. You will then navigate to the folder where your file is located, click on the file and select OK to open.
Method 2:
this is the drag and drop method. It is very simple and all you need to do is drag the file you want to open into your Silhouette workspace. If the file type is compatible with your edition, it will be placed in your workspace where you left it.
Method 3:
this is the silhouette library method. You can add any compatible file to your Silhouette library so that you can place it in your workspace without looking for it on your computer. To add a file to your library, open Silhouette and click File> Import> Import to Library. You can then browse for the file that you would like to add to your library. Click OK and your file is now available to use at any time while working in Silhouette. Now if the file you would like to use is already in your library, you can start a new project by opening Silhouette and then clicking on the ‘Show Library’ icon located on the left side. Find the layout you would like to use and double click on it. The design will now be added to your workspace.

I am working with the DXF file in Sihouette Basic Edition, but it looks completely different than I expected. When I try to move or resize the design, it leaves pieces behind. How to start?
DXF files are imported as outlines only without colors or layers. Therefore, when using a DXF file, you need to be very careful, especially if there are a lot of small parts in your design. You may need to group and / or make a compound path as parts / colors / layers to cut. Use the PNG photo as a guide if necessary. Personally, I highly recommend upgrading to the Designer Edition as soon as possible as SVG files import differently with colors and layers so generally easier to work with. Need help with DXF files?

I opened my file in Sihouette, but there is nothing. Looks blank
The design could have been imported very small or somewhere off the mat. Use the zoom out icon and zoom out as far as you can. Then use your keyboard and press Ctrl plus the letter A to select all (Command plus ‘A’ on a MAC). If it still appears that there is nothing in the file, contact the designer for guidance. If you were able to place the design off the mat and want to avoid it in the future, go to the import settings (Edit> Preferences> Import Options) and check the following for SVG and DXF options: Fit to Page, Make White Lines on black and join lines into polylines. Need more?
I would like to ungroup the layout in Silhoutte, but ungroup is not an option. It’s shaded so I can’t select it.
If you run into this problem in Silhouette, the easy solution is to use the compound path release option instead. Then group all the pieces you need together and be sure to make those pieces a compound path again so you don’t lose pieces that may be hidden. It helps make the fill color transparent by doing this so you can see all the pieces. If compound path is also not an option, verify that you have opened the correct file type.

Can I import the entire design from a package into my Silhouette library at once?
Definitely! The process is fairly simple. Open your Silhouette Library and then open the folder where your files are saved. Select them all, and drag and drop them into your library. That’s! The import process may take a bit longer if you import a large number of files, so be patient.
